You invited me me many years ago, to wander out and see.
Untethering disbeliefs others tried to cage me in, whispering, “It’s time to come and find me.”
So I wandered out to know you, explore this new enchanting world. I had no map, I had no plan, yet under your great wings I was furled. I wasn’t scared in the least, even at times when perhaps I should, but somehow in the middle of uncharted waters, you showed me that you are good.
First we went to Central America, to journey together alone. I’ll never forget our shoreline conversation, for it was there you first made yourself known. You taught me how to love others and see them as you do, to look and listen in their eyes, where their heart was coming through. You gave me courage to talk to strangers, make friends with the love in me that resides, to bring forth light into darkened places and to walk boldly in every stride. You gave me the gift of the ocean where my heart dove in and dove deep! Spending hours in the water I found anew kind of peace, a saltwater heart to keep.
Next we ventured to the desert, where your presence was vast and true. Each steady step on the sandstone ascent brought me closer to the nearness of you. You quieted my heart in the backcountry, brought joy in the blaze of the sun. You awed my heart each night of stars, and you chased me down each time I would run. You captivated my soul there, that I will never forget. Through all the mistakes, all the failed attempts, your love overpowered regret.
Onward we went and circumnavigate did we go. Mexico, Florida, Southern California and even some in Puerto Rico. There were the redwoods, Captiva Island, Sri Lanka and others, where you gave me space and room to grow. Knowing I’d come to you in my own stubborn way, still you never left and still you loved me so.
You knew I had a restless pioneer spirit and couldn’t wait for more to explore, so you stayed with me through the East’s and the West’s walking before me through every door.
Your love is an exploration, a dare adventure to unfold. It’s a wild goose chase that I’ll never stop pursuing, a story forever to be told.
